Lola Belle Douglas

July 9, 2007 — September 14, 2024

Park Hills

Lola Belle Douglas of Park Hills passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, having lived to the remarkable age of 17 years and 2 months. She was in the presence of her loving Mom and Dad, Ashley and Michael Douglas, and will live on in their hearts forever.

Lola was adopted from a rescue organization in 2007 at the age of 3 months. It was love-at-first sight with Lola's sweet face and her falling asleep in her new mom's arms the first time she was held. Ashley and Michael were 22 and 24 years old when adopting Lola, and she remained their first baby throughout all of the best parts of their lives for the next 17 years, including buying a home, getting married, career changes, welcoming a human sister, adding a dog sister, and so much more.

Lola was the sunshine in the Douglas family's life. In her early years, she was a great bunny hunter and an incredibly high jumper. She greeted all visitors with jumps and excitement and was a master of turning in circles! She enjoyed walks and car rides. From the time Lola was 4 years old and throughout the rest of her life, she adored her human sister Isla Mae. She was immediately fascinated upon Isla's arrival and remained close by her side throughout her infancy and on into childhood and adolescence, and she loved receiving many extra dropped morsels from Isla. Lola loved to chase Isla through the backyard, and she especially loved romps in the snow.

Forever a creature of comfort, Lola loved to lounge on the couch, often belly-up or in human-like positions. She enjoyed pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals, and in her early years could destroy any "indestructible" toy given to her. She often daintily crossed her paws and never minded being dressed up in hats and costumes. Lola loved Christmas and opening presents, laying under the Christmas tree, was an absolute hound for treats, knew many tricks, loved butt scratches, and loved to play with her green bone. Her family will forever have fond memories of playing "Green Bone Time" with Lola during Covid shutdown. Lola's best friend was her mom. As her mom's "shadow dog", she followed her or kept eyes on her wherever she went in the house. She slept by her mom's side and was her confidante, protector, and emotional support.

In the final three years of Lola's life, she was a big sister to the family's Aussiedoodle, Margot J. The two had a love-hate relationship much like human sisters and would annoy each other readily but clearly loved each other. Lola served as a stern mama and guide to Margot, just as the family hoped. She commanded respect but allowed Margot to get close sometimes and even allowed some cuddles.

Lola is survived by her human parents, Ashley and Michael Douglas; human sister, Isla Mae Douglas; dog sister, Margot J Douglas; maternal human grandparents, Alan and Becki Gremminger; paternal human grandparents, Greg and Anita Douglas; many family members and close friends also survive and will miss Lola's sweet face. Lola's family knows she is high-stepping across the rainbow bridge with healthy hips and is back to being "the fastest girl". She will be forever missed by her family and friends. Mom and Dad will love you forever, Lola Belle.
